A friend and I were discussing the undoing of the psychic infrastructure, the monoculture, we’re all experiencing right now and this fits right into that discussion.
U.S.A. culture was high trust and well-educated back when movies were big. I'm thinking scriptwriters are no longer educated according to the reality of being human. You can't relate realistically to other people in writing or in life if you really believe a boy can be a girl or that it's even o.k. to believe it's possible. There is no longer a unified sense of "reality" in real life. How can the Dream Factory function if the audience already lives in an impossible dream?
I’m about to be unemployed. I have taught high school since 2008 with some breaks. But I just can’t do it anymore. It’s pretty awful. I have a trilogy of crime thrillers I’d love to see as films but fuck if I know where to start which means there’s no place to start. I genuinely have no idea what I’m going to do.
It's an ironic metaphor for how the US is going that we're now making one of our biggest exports, things that made the world love America, overseas. I guess when you let tech and finance people, who think that a hammer is the right tool for every job in every industry, poison the well, that's what you get though.
